Today we installed a logger at the Charlotte Museum of History in a historic spring. Over the past year, this spring has lost a significant amount of flow. We are hoping to shed some light on the issue so this historic treasure is preserved for future generations.

General Notes:
Mindfulness and self care are two essential things in this day and age of go-getting and non-stop. I know that I find myself constantly being swamped by things I "should" be doing and tend to lose focus on myself. Successful people tend to have a great work-life balance and a serious self care routine. If you don't feel great, you won't be able to do work at your top level. Therefore, it makes sense to spend a little more time on yourself in order to have a successful day. I have been told that the way you spend the first hour of your day is largely influential on the remaining hours you are awake. Shouldn't those hours be spent caring for yourself, planning the day, and being mindful of the tasks that must be accomplished? I think so, and therefore, I have made a morning routine! You can see it below. I think it's best to start the day WITHOUT looking at your phone. I like to wake up at the same time everyday so my body knows what to expect. Stretching is a great way to prepare for meditation time as it helps wake the body. After stretching, I like to make a wonderful cup of coffee and sip it while I plan my day. After planning the day and finishing my coffee I shower, make-up, and dress for the day. After dressing, I check my phone and then head to work. Not only are your morning habits important, but your night habits matter too! You can't expect to have a great morning wake-up experience if you don't have an easy nighttime experience. Below you will see my routine for nighttime. It is important to unwind and release the stresses of the day and I think taking an hour to yourself is a great way to unwind and prepare for a great night of sleep. One hour before I plan to sleep I put on my pajamas, clean my face, and check my phone a final time before setting my alarm for the morning. I then make a cup of hot tea (herbal and non-caffeine!) which I sip while I journal about my day. Meditation and journaling are important for de-stressing and preparing your mind for rest. Get the bad thoughts out of the way so you can have a restful night. Neither journaling or meditation need to take a long time so don't stress if you only spend 3 minutes writing. Just get the big things out and head into meditation where you can clear your mind of the days issues. Finally, I like to lay in bed a read a chapter in a book before going to sleep. Remember: always care for yourself because you won't be able to do great things if your mind and body aren't taken care of first! If you want a copy of these just comment here and I will send you a printable PDF.
I have been working on publishing my masters thesis and have recently received comments from reviewers. I was shocked how well I received their comments as criticism is something I do not take well. However, I have been practicing positive thinking and was able to take their comments as helpful instead of hurtful. I think criticism is hard for a lot of people to take because they are taking it personal like I have most of my life. Taking a step back and thinking of the critique as a positive experience really will help you become a better writer. If you are worried about reviewers comments, take a breath, relax, THEN read them. :)
One of the comments was a suggestion to make some of my graphics better. Below you can see two options I am thinking about using. I will add the p-values, axis titles, and caption as soon as I pick the best option! My revisions are due by November 24 so wish me luck! Hello all,
I just wanted to provide a brief update on my first semster as a PhD student. A research plan is starting to pan out! It looks like I will be working on three topics all under the umbrella of watershed restoration! My topics are going to be (1) carbon flows, (2) stormwater chemistry, and (3) groundwater level change! Below are pictures of the field site where I will be conducting my research! Hopefully, I will be working on a poster with my lab mate this semester looking at environmental factors that impact fish biodiversity! Happy #worldwaterday! Remember water is the only substance on earth for which there is no substitute! 💦💦💦💦
